DULAS VALLEY TIPIS

TENT ARCHITECTURE

THE BEDOUINE TENT © 1996

SIZES AND UK PRICES - PITCHING INSTRUCTIONS

In the deserts of the Middle East the swift Bedouin tribes made a tent.  It was designed to protect the people from the harsh environment and to provide for their needs in terms of living space.  Separate sections provided privacy and social space.  The front walls formed wind breaks to shelter the campfire or stove.  The tent that they made was light weight and even the larger tents could be pitched quickly by one person.

Although the "Dulas Valley Tipis" Bedouin Tent © is based on the traditional Bedouin pattern this particular tent was designed in house by our head designer and company founder Lesley Davidson. Dulas Valley Tipis holds the sole copywrite© to this structure. We use durable cotton canvas and modern techniques to finish the tent perfectly.  The waterproofed canvas is dyed to authentic colour ranges, stormflaps and Dutch lacing render the tent completely draught free and water tight.

This Bedouin Tent is made totally from natural materials - cotton canvas, hemp and jute.

YOUR BEDOUIN TENT

This is the tent for throwing in the 4x4 and heading off into the great outdoors, with the family, with friends or alone.

Your Bedouin Tent can be either our basic design or we can include your special modfications.  You can choose to add colour to the basic natural colourway or keep close to the natural cream, sand, brown and black.

Certain features like tension bands (Trigas) can be made with flashes of bright colour or can be decorated with applique patterns.  The standard tent has a simple geometric design on the main tension band.

BEDOUIN TENTS
PITCHING INSTRUCTIONS

The easiest and fastest tent in the world to put up.

1.    Take the roof section and lay it on the ground where you want the tent to stand.  The tension band should be underneath and the larger section to the left as you stand facing the tent.

ING5

2.    Stretch out the guy ropes following the angles of the tension bands, place the sliders halfway along the length and peg out.

3.    The poles are three different sizes.  Take one of the shortest poles and put the spike through one of the corner eyelet's lifting the corner of the roof.  Take a medium sized pole and do the same the next eyelet along. Work your way around the tent putting the shortest poles in the corners and the medium poles in the straight edges as you go.   Alter the tension of the guy ropes with the sliders as you do this.

IMG6

4.    Fit the centre pole into the shoe in the centre of the roof and tie it into place.

IMG7

5.    Adjust the tension of the guy ropes using the sliders.

IMG8

6.    Locate the end of the wall section.  Take the front centre pole out of the eyelet by lifting the roof off it and put the loop over the spike, then replace the pole. Work you way around the tent in a clockwise direction, hanging the wall off the poles.

7.    Lace the the wall to the roof using the Dutch lacing system.

8.    Tie the wall bottom to the poles so the walls can be lifted up the pole to create ventilation.  The wall can be pegged down at each pole if necessary.
